"Video Animation"

Assignment Brief 

Students will acquire visual communication thinking skills that involves several stages involving creating storyboard, designing characters, backgrounds, animating movement, adding sound effects, voiceovers and music, as well as rending the animation and exporting it into a video format. Each student is to produce original ideas of their own visual design with the graphic design application and technical digitization skills.

Submission Requirement

Students are required to submit a completed video 720HD size: 1280x 720px, 16:9 aspect ratio; 48kHz, 16 bits stereo sound; at least within 24-fps to 30fps, total of 30-60 seconds through Google Drive. 

Content Requirement

  1. The content should focus on five important points related to forest 
    - Food, Oxygen, Recreation, Soil and Timber.

  • Develop an understanding of the video and sound compression techniques and file formats

  • Demonstrate the use of expressive communication skills in a time-based media

My Storyboard

These two slides of picture is my storyboard before starting the animation progress. 

Since I choose collage animation style so I'll arrange the photo layout through out the application Canva.

The difference between storyboard and my final outcome of video is not that much, y'all can see through that by clicking the "download PDF" button to see. 
 

My Ideas

The video animation will be in collage-style production the central theme or concept of the video will be in the form of introduction of forest in the way of showing the pictures collaging together and list the 6 important of forest (Food, Oxygen, Recreation, Environment, Soil and Timber) 

​The collage elements will feature iconic forest landmarks like trees, mountains, sky, clouds, timbers, animals, plants and etc.

My Progress

When I first heard about this assignment, I was in lecture, and the teacher briefed us about what we should pay attention to in this video animation, and after that, she let us conceptualize our own storyboard and animation style.

After that, I didn't really have any ideas, and I felt helpless and confused about an assignment for the first time. I almost stepped on the deadline to make my video animation.

Until one afternoon I swiped on an instagram reels about collage animation. In the video, the blogger edited the iconic places she traveled to and presented them to the viewers in a way of collage animation.

I made up my mind at that point that I wanted to reference her video to create my video animation as well!

About the Video

This video animation use collage animation as a reference. 

The photo that use inside the video animation are usually take from google and pinterest. I use Adobe Photoshop to make some tearing effect on it.

I also have done a cover page for the video.The photo list below is the cover page of the video.

Final Outcome

This is the final outcome for the assignment.

This is a very unforgettable experience, this is because it's this kind of video animation, from conceptualizing the storyboard, to deciding to make a collage animation, to collecting materials, to editing the movie, all of these are done by myself. There were ups and downs and a lot of frustrations, but I'm very happy that I was able to make this video animation. I think I still have a lot of room for improvement, but I think I did my best with this movie.
